The Pixies will play Dublin's Olympia Theatre on November 18th as part of a 17 date European tour, which the band says will be the first leg of a "massive world tour." UPDATE - Second date added, see below.

This news comes just a couple of weeks removed from Kim Deal's surprising decision to quit the Pixies while in the middle of a European tour with The Breeders. Today's news indicates that the reason for Deal's leaving the band was an unwillingness to participate in a months-long tour with a newly invigorated Pixies, who also indicated that they intend to release their first significant batch of new music in over two decades.

An announcement on the Pixies' official website said that the tour will give them "an opportunity to do something they haven't been able to do in two decades: premiere brand new Pixies songs, the first collection of new material since 1991's Trompe Le Monde."

The Pixies signalled their intent last Friday by releasing a new song 'Bagboy', along with a crazy music video, online - the band's first new material in the post-Deal era. Speaking of that, the bassist transition won't be too overwhelming for hardcore Pixies fans, seeing as the band's new bassist is also a girl named Kim; former The Muffs and The Pandoras four-stringer Kim Shattuck.

Check out the video for 'Bagboy' below. We kinda like it.

*UPDATE* The tickets for the initial gig on November 18th have sold out so a SECOND DATE on November 19th has been added.
