You may remember protests that took place following U2's Croke Park gigs back in July, objecting to excessive noise levels. After receiving a number of complaints from local residents, Dublin City Council launched an investigation that found that the band exceeded the Environmental Protection Agency's 75 decibel maximum noise level 12 times over the course of their three nights in Dublin.

Now promoters MCD must pay the council fines totalling €36,000, €3000 for each breach. The fine has been described as 'paltry' by Pat Gates, chair of the Croke Park Area Residents' Alliance.
"It really isn't a disincentive. They would write that off in terms of planning for such things."

No kidding... The Irish Independent reports that U2 made €19.4million from their Dublin shows alone.
