What a year for musicals and movie soundtracks it has been.
And there's plenty more to come in 2019 too. We've got Elton John's biopic 'Rocketman' coming in May; both of Disney's live-action 'Aladdin' and 'Lion King' arriving in May and July respectively; and Natalie Portman's 'Vox Lux' being released sometime in the new year. Oh, and another unknown Disney affair, 'Frozen 2,' will be here to plague your eardrums late next year too.
But for now, here are the best soundtracks of 2018 that will sit pretty in any Christmas stocking.
'The Greatest Showman'
The musical was just so good and heartwarming that our own 'Late Late Toy Show' had to pay homage to it this year. The soundtrack has had a roaring success in Ireland, and is one of the best-selling albums of this year. It's no wonder that Hugh Jackman sold out his two-date tour in Dublin this morning.
Whatever you made of the movie, there's no denying that 'Bohemian Rhapsody' had a killer soundtrack. If you haven't already nabbed yourself any of Queen's 'Best Of' albums, then this might be the perfect 2018 solution.
'Mary Poppins Returns'
Released from today, you have plenty of time to learn the nine brand new songs off by heart before hitting the cinema on December 19th for the movie's official release. And judging by the reaction it's getting so far, it seems Disney can do no wrong with these magical reboots.
'Momma Mia! Here We Go Again'
The first movie was such a success that they just had to make a sequel. The 'Momma Mia! Here We Go Again' soundtrack featured 18 tracks with the voices of Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, and of course Cher.
'A Star Is Born'
What can we say? If we hadn't included this soundtrack in our list, there might have been just a fair few angry Irish people. We've a feeling 'The Greatest Showman' was pipped to the post in terms of sales this year by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, as they've enjoyed eight weeks of sitting on top since the soundtrack's release.
