Following the announcement that The Who would tour the US in October and November, Pete Townshend has blogged about his next project - a new musical rock opera.
Townshend said the musical, entitled Floss, would have a similar style to his previous rock operas, Tommy and Quadrophenia. According to reports, Floss will chart the difficult relationship between a pub-rock musician who suddenly finds wealth and his wife. Townshend added, 'In this case the songs are interspersed with surround-sound 'soundscapes' featuring complex sound-effects and musical montages. 'Floss' will be a son-et-lumiére musical piece, intended for outdoor performance, or arenas.'
Townshend also revealed that The Who are working on a new album for release in 2010, which will feature some songs from Floss. The show is set to hit the stage in 2011, as Townshend is already in talks with producers and New York.
