It looks like Alex Turner will have to clear a little bit more space in his trophy cabinet after Arctic Monkeys dominated the NME Awards 2014 nominations with eight nods, including Best Album, Best Live Band and Best British Band. Scroll down for the full list of nominations.

Along with Arctic Monkeys, Haim, Palma Violets and Queens of the Stone Age are also up for multiple awards with the latter facing stiff competition from Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and Haim in the Best International Band category.

Interestingly - and perhaps reflecting his divisive nature - Russell Brand has been nominated for both Hero of the Year and also Villain of the Year, where he faces stiff competition from angel-faced Harry Styles and, er, Vladimir Putin. We don't think either of them will be on hand to accept the award though.

The negative awards aren't just reserved for Harry Styles though as his One Direction bandmates don't fare too well either in the nominations, picking up a nomination for Worst Band alongside 30 Seconds To Mars, The 1975, Imagine Dragons, Muse and The Wanted.

As you might expect, the more militant element of One Direction's fan club have been voicing their discontent at One Direction's Worst Band nomination. Twitter is abuzz with all manner of hormonal angry teenagers expressing themselves with varying levels of spelling and grammar.

"No please why was one direction nominated for the worst band what even is NME", said one disgruntled fan on the social media website. Another said: "When will the pricks at Nme awards stop putin the boys up for like Harry Styles Villain Of The Year, One Direction up for Worst Band", inadvertently (we assume) making a reference to Russian President Putin who, as we mentioned above, rubs elbows with Harry Styles in the Villain of the Year category.

The ceremony will be held on February 26th.
