Never ones to stray too far from our shores for too long, and after having played a recent date in The O2, The National have announced details of their return.

The Ohioan band will play their first on July 14th in Cork's Live at the Marquee (having played the same festival a year prior), before a date in Galway's Big Top at the city's arts festival on the 16th after which they'll conclude their brief Irish jaunt with not one but two shows in the picturesque surroundings Dublin's Iveagh Gardens on the 18th and 19th of July.

Such was the reception for Matt Berninger and co. after their Live at the Marquee date last summer, they are supposed to have asked if they could play again next year - a wish that has been granted. A subsequent sold-out show in The O2 wasn't enough of our island for them either, it seems.

Maybe we should just draft up some passports for the lads already.

Tickets for the shows at Live at the Marquee in Cork and the Iveagh Gardens in Dublin go on sale Saturday 21 December at 9.00am
