The year is almost done, and the people at Forbes magazine who calculate these sorts of matters have totted up their tallies and figured out just which musicians might lend you a fiver if you ask nicely.

It'll come as no surprise that Taylor Swift has absolutely raked it in during 2016, despite not touring - she's number one on the list of Highest Paid Musicians for this year, earning a whopping $170 million pre-tax for the period June 2015 - June 2016. Not bad for a year's work, it must be said.

One Direction also feature prominently, earning a massive $110 million for the same period between them - they can afford to go on their 'hiatus'.

Other acts on the list include Adele ($80.5 million), Garth Brooks ($70 million), U2 ($55 million) and rather surprisingly, The Weeknd (also at $55 million). No doubt we'll be seeing Adele's name on the 2017 list, when all of the earnings from her hugely successful '25' world tour are taken into account.
