Flaming Lips gigs are usually theatrical and fairly off-the-wall events, but their most recent gig proved their most unusual to date.

Last year when The Flaming Lips started mentioning the possibility of performing a 'bubble concert' - where instead of frontman Wayne Coyne emerging to do a 'bubble walk' in a zorbing ball, the audience would be enclosed in them to protest them from transmission of Covid-19 - it seemed like a pie-in-the-sky kind of idea.

Nonetheless, Coyne and his bandmates have followed through on the idea of playing a gig to an audience entirely enclosed in their famous bubbles. Following a few trial runs, the psych-rock band played he first-ever bubble concerts on Friday and Saturday at a venue in their native Oklahoma City. The band were also in bubbles.

They even had some special balloons made for the occasion that spelled out: "FUCK YOU COVID-19”, while their 13-song set included some of their biggest hits - like 'Race for the Prize', 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' and 'Do You Realize?'
