This recession is really starting to get on my nerves. It is not a good time for music types at all. First State moves online only, Zavvi gets taken over by HMV, then Road Records announces they're shutting down, and now The Event Guide is also ceasing their printed publication to become an online-only resource after the current issue. It's not that we have any problem with reading things online (we here at entertainment.ie do it all day, though it does mean more competition for us... eek!), but it was nice the way you could pick up The Event Guide in your local coffee shop and flick through it. We'll miss that.

There's still a certain amount of optimism that the change will be "only temporary." Writer Siobhan Kane commented "I will continue to contribute articles to The Event Guide, particularly because of the freedom it affords me to write about artists that often provoke and interest." Yeah, we hope it's only temporary too...
