As you may know, Hawaii is the latest place to be hit by devastating wildfires, with communities and towns being destroyed and many people losing their lives.

Several celebrities have posted publicly to share their condolences and express solidarity with locals, including Stevie Nicks.

However, the Fleetwood Mac singer has been accused of being 'tone deaf' after posting about her niece vacationing at her holiday home, near the historical town of Lahaina on the island of Maui.

Although some fans have defended her post as being well-intentioned, others have slammed it for being 'privileged' and 'self-centred'.

"As I am sure you have heard – the island, Maui, where I own a house I have been staying at since the 80s – and the small village, city, most magical place on earth, Lahaina, burned to the ground over the last few days," her post read. "And to make the situation worse my young niece, her husband, and their little boy had just arrived for a very needed vacation before she started up her school year (on her way to becoming a psychologist) for 10 days. They had one and a half days of fun and then – the fire started."

She went on to describe how her niece was uncontactable and unaware of the fire's rapid spread, and also said how the island 'defines' her, as well as Fleetwood Mac "and their families".

"Mick and I came here in 1978, went up to Kula to look at a huge, beautiful house and stood in front of it listening to the gentle magical wind," she said. "He said to me – “I will live and die on this island.” I knew he was telling the truth. John also lived here in Maui for a long time – Christine never lived here but visited many times."

One fan responded: "Oh Stevie, love you but Native Hawaiians lost their homes for generations to come, your niece, at best, vacation was ruined, this is not what you should’ve posted."

Another wrote: "Wow. I am so disappointed in this post. You are so privileged. Who cares that it wrecked someone's vacation. Offer help and support. Do something. This post was very self-centered and shocking. I always looked up to u but this is 💔💔💔💔"
