As we reported on recently, a new Irish smartphone application called Soundwave is making some pretty sizeable waves in the technology realm since its launch last month. The idea behind the app is beautiful in its simplicity: it allows users to share what music they're listening to with people from all around the world, like some sort of music-specific Twitter.

How does it work? Soundwave knows what you listen to on your phone, be it YouTube, Spotify, or the myriad other options available to you and posts your musical whimsy to your personal profile to be shared with friends and strangers around the globe. Finding new music has literally never been simpler. Be warned, though: now there will be hard evidence of those late-night drunken trawls through Ace of Base's back catalogue...

To showcase the Soundwave application in all its glory, we decided to have a look at the profiles of two of its more prominent users, Leinster & Ireland stars Cian Healy and Luke Fitzgerald. Let's take a gander at what they've been listening to lately and see who wins our Battle of the Tunes!

CIAN HEALY

The Leinster prop is a pretty well-renowned DJ in his own right, having performed at Oxegen on a few occasions, so will he be on the cutting edge of new musical trends? Let's find out.

1. Drake - 'Headlines'

Hmm. Not that auspicious a start from Ireland's #1. Though, we must admit that we're not particular fans of Drake in here having described his Take Care album by saying "hearing Drake introspectively croon about his many qualities is like being stuck at a party with that guy who has no social skills. Just nod and move away." Perhaps we're biased, but so be it.(2/10)

2. Tyga - 'Rack City'

Mr. Healy clearly likes his North American club/rap. 'Rack City' is one of Tyga's biggest hits and it's DELIGHTFULLY crude. We approve, but don't let your mother here this one. (7/10)

3. Chase & Status - 'Big Man'

A stomping tune which we expect will be on Chase & Status' third album expected towards the end of this year. Cian's first two tracks were relatively understated but 'Big Man' really shakes the cobwebs out. Great stuff. (8/10)

4. Dizzee Rascal - 'Fix Up, Look Sharp'

It's hard to believe that it's been ten years since Dizzee Rascal released his breakthrough single 'Fix Up, Look Sharp' from his Mercury Prize winning album Boy In Da Corner and it still sounds as fresh today as it did in the summer of 2003. (8/10)

5. Frank Ocean - 'Thinkin Bout You'

Frank Ocean's channel ORANGE album was one of last year's defining albums and the perfect showcase for Ocean's incredibly intricate and emotive vocals. A slowburner of a love song, this was the song that introduced Ocean to a wider audience. Good call, Cian. (7/10)

CIAN HEALY FINAL SCORE - 32/50

LUKE FITZGERALD

The flying winger hasn't yet (to our knowledge) followed in the steps of his Irish teammates Cian Healy and Simon Zebo by actually spending a lot of time behind the decks. But one glance at his Soundwave profile shows that Luke clearly knows his stuff. Let's take a look at what he's been listening to lately..

1. Sub Focus - 'Tidal Wave'

Featuring vocals from the wonderful Alpines, 'Tidal Wave' was released as a single towards the end of last year and will be featured on the English electronic producer's yet-to-be-released second album. A good start from Mr. Fitzgerald. (7/10)

2. SBTRKT - 'Right Thing To Do'

One of the less heralded of SBTRKT's self-titled debut album. Jessie Ware provided vocal duties on the tune, which begins like something you might hear from The xx and ends just a couple of notches below Orbital. (6/10)

3. Naughty Boy - 'La La La'

One of 2013's biggest singles so far, 'La La La' shot straight to the top of the charts in the UK and also placed highly in various other markets across Europe. Sam Smith's compelling vocals, as well as that chorus, signpost this as a summer defining song. (7/10)

4. Daft Punk - 'Motherboard'

One of the more delicate efforts on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, 'Motherboard' shows that there's a lot more to the French geniuses latest album than a catchy Pharrell Williams fronted single and it contains some of the most interesting instrumentation on the entire album. It does descend a little too close to prog towards the end but a worthy tune all the same. (7/10)

5. FCL - 'It's You'

A house anthem, if ever there was one. Droning synths battle, reverb-laden vocals and a pretty darn thumping beat - this has all the necessary elements to be a club hit. Still, doesn't quite do it for us.

EDIT: We've since been informed by Luke that we mistakenly posted the wrong FCL track. We've corrected it and the tune you see above is indeed the right one. Good thing we made the adjustment too, as this one is way better! Luke's score has now been bumped up to... (8/10)

LUKE FITZGERALD FINAL SCORE - 36

With a grand total of 36 from 50, Luke Fitzgerald takes the bragging rights in the first ever Battle of the Tunes! Cian Healy might feel a little sore about the 2/10 score for Drake, but he just happened to select a song from one of John's least favourite album's of the last five years. Harsh, but fair. Congratulations, Luke!
