Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, founders of Sonic Youth, have announced that they have ended their marriage after 27 years together. The band have a scheduled tour of South America next month, which they maintain will go ahead, but rumours are sure to emerge about what this split will mean for the band.
Sonic Youth were formed in 1981 by Moore and Gordon, who married three years later. They have a 17 year old daughter, Coco.
A statement said of the split and South American tour: "Plans beyond that tour are uncertain. The couple has requested respect for their personal privacy and does not wish to issue further comment."
