UK rapper Slowthai has been dropped from a multitude of festival bills this summer after news broke yesterday that he has been charged with rape.

The rapper, real name Tyron Frampton, appeared virtually in an Oxfordshire court yesterday to be charged with two counts of rape in an incident which allegedly took place in Oxford in September 2021.

He has since been removed from festival bills in the UK, including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds.

Frampton was released on bail and is scheduled to appear at Oxford Crown Court next month. He released a statement on social media refuting the allegations, saying "i am innocent and i am confident my name will be cleared. until then i will apply my energy to ensure this is concluded swiftly and justly. i ask that my supporters don’t comment about this situation and respect the process and privacy of my family during this time."

Slowthai is also due to appear at Dublin's Forbidden Fruit on June 4th. We have contacted the festival to confirm whether he will remain on the bill.

The rapper previously courted controversy at the NME Awards in 2020, where he was criticised for making lewd remarks towards host, comedian Katherine Ryan, and later got into an altercation with an audience member.

He released his third album 'Ugly' earlier this year.
