Silver Jews frontman David Berman has made a post on the Drag City message board suggesting that the end has come for the alt-rock group he founded along with Pavement's Stephen Malkmus in 1989.

After almost 20 years, Berman claims he is "moving to another category. Screenwriting or Muckraking." Although he admits that his wife, Cassie, who also plays with the band, is taking the news hard, it seems he still has a sense of humour about it all.

"I always said we would stop before we got bad. If I continue to record I might accidentally write the answer song to Shiny Happy People... What, you thought I was going to hang on to the bitter end like Marybeth Hamilton?"
