Whether you're a fan or not of the trendy kid mag, New Musical Express are one of the frontrunners popular music journalism. And it's that time of year again, when they present their Shockwaves NME Awards for 2009.

The show takes place tonight (25th Feb) at London's O2 Academy, Brixton, followed by tomorrow night's Big Gig at the O2 Arena, headlined by none other than indie gods, The Cure, with support from Franz Ferdinand, Crystal Castles and White Lies. No doubt it will be quite a show.

Voting has already closed for the awards tonight, which will be presented by Welsh 'Mock The Week' regular Mark Watson. Oasis and Alex Turner are top of a list of nominees which you can view here. Our choices (not predictions as the winners will undoubtedly be much cooler than us) for the main categories are highlighted in italics. We'll update you with a list of winners as soon as they're announced, before the award show is broadcast on Channel 4 at 11.35pm this Friday February 27th.
