It's been a week since one of the most remarkable public funerals Ireland has ever seen as Shane MacGowan's life was celebrated in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

However, there are some things that his widow Victoria Mary Clarke would like to set straight about the Pogues frontman and his final days.

MacGowan died on November 30th after a period of illness and had recently been discharged from the Dublin hospital where he had been treated in recent months.

His star-studded funeral saw music, dancing and eulogies about taking acid - but it seems that MacGowan's reputation as a hard drinker has followed him even in death.

Clarke took to X this morning to dispel the rumour circulating that her husband's final wish was to leave a large sum of money behind the bar.

"I just want to say that ⁦@ShaneMacGowan⁩ did NOT make a last request to leave 10 k behind the bar," she wrote. "is last request was for peace and love in the world. Although we are certain that he would have approved of the beautiful funeral!"

There's certainly no question of that.
