Spring is sprung, the sun is shining, it really is a day to get excited about the summer. And with line up announcements coming thick and fast this week, it's an even better day to get excited about summer festivals!
With recent announcements from Body & Soul, Forbidden Fruit and Cork X Southwest as well as imminent ones from Oxegen and Electric Picnic, the folks behind Bundoran's excellent surf and music festival Sea Sessions have announced news, not of the festival's musical line up, but of an event that will make surfing history in Ireland.
Sea Sessions are set to host the first ever Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) speciality event as part of the festival on 24th, 25th and 26th June 2011. Responsible for crowning the world champions of surfing since 1976 running the World Tour of Surfing, the ASP has sanctioned only a few speciality events in Europe. For the first time, this includes Sea Sessions annual Expression Session, in association with Quiksilver.
With competitors in with a chance to take home a €5000 prize, festival organiser Peter Craig explained that "The Speciality Event places emphasis on allowing surfers the freedom to free-surf and go for bigger moves, making it a thrilling spectacle for surfers and non-surfers alike".
Last year's Sea Sessions bill included Paul Weller and Fun Lovin' Criminals. With this year's festival set to be bigger than ever, we can't wait to see who they line up for 2011. Weekend tickets for Sea Sessions 2011 are available priced €79.95 with camping for an extra €20. For more information visit seasessions.com.
