This year would have been Rory Gallagher's 65th on the planet was he still with us. The town of his birth, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, will again honour the man - one of the finest guitarist of his, or any other, age - this year at the 12th Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival which will take place from Thursday 30th May to Sunday 2nd June.
The festival is billed as a "pure tribute to Rory Gallagher", the focus of this year is tied in to 'The Gathering' and aims to get as many Rory Gallagher fans together in one place as possible.
The voluntary committee that organise the Festival annually will announce over 25 Rock and Blues acts to perform on 15 different stages over the 4 day festival, many of which have international significance and will draw major audiences to the hometown of the Irish Rock ‘n Blues Music icon.
Chairperson of the Rory Gallagher Festival – Barry O’Neill said: "we are excited by the theme for this year’s tribute to Rory, ‘Failte Isteach Rock’, and we are welcoming Rory’s huge worldwide fan base to come and celebrate Rory at this years festival as it is certainly going to be one special tribute. I can assure Rory Gallagher Fans and music followers that this line-up of acts will pay homage to the G-man. Many of them have played through the great Gallagher years, have played very close to Rory while many other performers have been greatly inspired by Rory".
