There's nothing like a good list to get people riled up, and Rolling Stone has been doing just that with their latest ranked article.

The music publication has released their '200 Greatest Singers of All Time' list, ranking soul legend Aretha Franklin at #1 - but it has been causing quite a stir on social media, with many pointing out glaring omissions, such as the absence of the likes of Celine Dion in favour of singers like Jungkook from K-Pop band BTS.

In 2008, the same publication published a '100 Greatest Singers of All Time' list, but expanding it to 200 and changing the previous ranking wildly, in some cases (i.e. Michael Jackson from #23 in 2008 to #86 on the new list), has not gone down well.

However, there are two Irish names in the Top 200 - U2 frontman Bono comes in at #140, with Rolling Stone claiming "Since the early Eighties, Bono has pushed his voice to every extreme as he has approximated how to be a singer."

Belfast's own Van Morrison is listed at #37, noting that "To experience the height of Van Morrison’s vocal genius, you have to get beyond the words.

“Zero in on, say, the free-form back half of a 1974 performance of Listen to the Lion where he starts out with honeyed crooning and blissed-out humming, tries out around a dozen different cadences on the word ‘you’ and eventually lets fly with full-on grunts and groans."
