Sad news broke yesterday evening with the announcement that musician Robbie Robertson has died. He was 80.
The Canadian musician, best known for his work with Bob Dylan and as guitarist and songwriter for The Band, died in Los Angeles after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife Janet Zuccarini - whom he married just five months ago - his three children from his first marriage, Alexandra, Delphine and Sebastian, and his grandchildren.
Robertson had continued working until very recently, contributing the score to Martin Scorsese's upcoming 'Killers of the Flower Moon'. He was a frequent collaborator of Scorsese's - who famously directed 'The Last Waltz' - and the director led tributes to him in a statement that read:
"Robbie Robertson was one of my closest friends, a constant in my life and my work. Long before we ever met, his music played a central role in my life—me and millions and millions of other people all over this world. The Band’s music, and Robbie’s own later solo music, seemed to come from the deepest place at the heart of this continent, its traditions and tragedies and joys."
