If you will, cast your minds back to 1999. The "end of the world" was imminent, but we still had some damn good music to listen to, so we didn't mind.

Ah, 1999. Much simpler times. It was the year we had our first look at Keanu Reeves in the mind-boggling 'The Matrix'; and it was also Gay Byrne's final year of hosting duties on 'The Late Late Show.'

In terms of music, it was an absolute beast of a year. The year gave us such singles like S Club 7's 'Bring It All Back,' Eminem with 'My Name Is'; and who could forget Blink-182's historic album 'Emena Of The State.'

However, if we're speaking about February 1999, as in exactly 20 years ago, we had two very important music releases.

First up, it was the return of Blondie. Having not released any new music in 17 years, Debbie Harry and her band secured a number one hit with 'Maria' in the UK - 20 years after their first number one 'Heart Of Glass.'

Here's Blondie performing live on the Cat Deeley, Ant, and Dec TV show, 'CD: UK' in 1999.

February 1999 also marked the arrival of  TLC's 'No Scrubs'. When 'No Scrubs' was released on February 2nd, 1999, it went straight to number one in the singles charts in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. The track is still a favourite for radio DJs when they feel the need to play a throwback song.

The group performed later that year on the Jay Leno show (remember him?) wearing peak 90's getup.
