Then just 13 years old, the American teen was the object of ridicule due to the cheesier-than-cheese, fluffier-than-fluff nature of her debut single 'Friday'.

Well, five years later, she's back with a new song and a more worldly outlook on fame - as the tearful introduction that precedes 'The Great Divide' demonstrates.
