After nearly doing everyone's head in with his ridiculously catchy hit single 'Somebody That I Used To Know', Belgian/Australian musician Gotye has decided on pursuing an entirely different way of wrecking people's heads - by becoming a politician.

The Grammy Award winning singer has set up a party called the Basics Rock n' Roll Party (BRRP), alongside regular collaborators The Basics (Kris Schroeder and Tim Heath) in an attempt to raise awareness of a political system that many Australians don't feel a part of.

Schroeder told the Sunday Morning Herald that: "Politics in this country is treated like it belongs to the elite. We have these career politicians who often come from well-to-do families... and they are groomed in to becoming these lifelong politicians that have no other life experience outside of either being in the young Liberals or young Labour and becoming a member of parliament."

The BRRP policies include improve schools, beginning a system of compulsory first aid training in schools and better accessibility to music classes and instruments for young Australians.

The group is planning on running in upcoming elections on November 29th and have said they will embark on a music tour to help raise awareness for their cause.
