After the departure of Jimmy Chamberlain and a series of open auditions, reports claim that the Smashing Pumpkins have found their new drummer, of just 19 years of age.

The report comes originally from a fan blog 'Hipsters United,' who claim that the young Mike Byrne, student at Berklee College of Music and drummer for Oregon band Moses, Smell the Roses, is to attempt to fill Chamberlain's enormous shoes. Byrne himself posted on his myspace page that he was "jamming with the Smashing Pumpkins for a week in May" and later, that he was "off for another couple weeks at pumpkin camp."

Meanwhile, frontman Billy Corgan blogged "I think I have my drummer of the future. I've worked with him so far for one week and all indications are really good that he's the man for the job. Going to work with him some more before it becomes official." All the signs point to Byrne, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
