This isn't exactly what we needed of a wet Friday morning. The office here in entertainment towers breathed a collective exasperated sigh when we came across the news that Simply Red's Mick Hucknall is teaming up with Sterophonics to record their very own version of The Beatles' first album 'Please Please Me'.

Why? Well, that's a very good question. The idea is to re-record the record as part of BBC Radio 2's 'The Golden Age of the Album' celebration, which is expected to be a major part of the British stations programming over the next few months.

Hucknall and the Stereos will attempt to re-record the album in just 12 hours, the same amount of time it took John, Paul, George and Ringo to lay the record down 50 years ago.

12 hours. Another stellar idea lads. Does anyone else have trouble with this, or is it just us?

In related news, 80's pop starlet Tiffany is being tapped to rework the classic NWA record of the same era, 'Straight Outta Compton' for the same BBC celebration.*

*This is actually untrue.
