2008 - Isaac Hayes was found dead in his Memphis home at the age of 65. Hayes was most famous for his 1971 Oscar-winning Theme From Shaft and providing the voice of Chef in South Park.

2007 - Anthony Wilson, the man behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, died from cancer aged 57. Wilson founded Factory Records, the label behind New Order and the Happy Mondays, and also set up the famous Hacienda Nightclub.

1970 - How's this for UK album charts - #1 Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water, #2 The Beatles' Let It Be and #3 Bob Dylan's Self Portrait.

1968 - Tom Jones was top of the UK album charts with Delilah.

 

1964 - Mick Jagger was fined £32 for driving without insurance and breaking the speed limit. Jagger attempted to explain himself by saying that he was on "an errand of mercy", visiting some injured fans at hospital.
