So here's something we weren't expecting this morning. The surviving members of Nirvana are set to be joined on stage tonight by Paul McCartney at a benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Sandy. According to The Sun, Macca will join Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic on stage - the first time those two will have performed in public together since Kurt Cobain's death in 1994.
McCartney told the newspaper that he rang Dave Grohl and they arranged a jam session, which turned out to be Grohl on drums, Novoselic on bass and Pat Smear on guitar, leading to speculation that the four musicians will play a Nirvana song at tonight's concert.
"I didn't really know who they were", McCartney said, showing his age somewhat. "They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said 'Whoa, you guys haven't played together for all that time?' And somebody whispered to me "That's Nirvana. You're Kurt.' I couldn't believe it."
The 121212 benefit concert will take place tonight in New York's Madison Square Garden and will also host performances by The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Green Day, Kanye West and The Who.
