So thank you to the lovely people at MCD for providing me with a hearty lunch of sandwiches, chips and chocolate eclairs at the official Oxegen 2009 launch in the swish and sultry surrounds of Cafe Novo this afternoon. It means we now have all the latest announcements for this year's festival, including some fantastically massive new headliners. Pet Shop Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction, Glasvegas, Doves, The Saturdays and Eagles of Death Metal are at the very tip top of the new additions, which can be viewed in full below in the newly announced weekend breakdown (very important for those who don't want to sleep in the mud come July 10th-12th):
FRI 10TH JULY: Blur, Snow Patrol, The Script, Keane, Lily Allen, James, Pendulum, Ladyhawke, Fight Like Apes, Swedish House Mafia, Crookers. NEW additions: Eagles of Death Metal, Dreadzone, God is an Astronaut, Tom Middleton, Aeroplane.
SAT 11TH JULY: Kings of Leon, Bloc Party, Elbow, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Pete Doherty, The Mars Volta, The Game, Squeeze, Hockey, Tiga, Digitalism. NEW additions: Pet Shop Boys, Doves, The Saturdays, Gary Go.
SUN 12TH JULY: The Killers, Razorlight, The Specials, Lady Gaga, The Ting Tings, Katy Perry, Manic Street Preachers, Paolo Nutini, Florence and the Machine White Lies, Jason Mraz, Foals, Friendly Fires, of Montreal, Miss Kittin and The Hacker (Live). NEW additions: Nine Inch Nails, Jane’s Addiction, Glasvegas, Hudson Mohawke.
MTV UK is also announced as the official broadcast partner for 2009. Billed as MTV Presents OXEGEN this underlines the broadcaster’s commitment to support live music events as part of its initiative, Music's Biggest Fan which launched in 2008. MTV UK's support will include both TV and web content of the festival.
Boutique Camping is back at OXEGEN 2009 in the Green Campsite which provides a more luxurious stay at Europe's Favourite Rock & Roll Weekend. The bespoke village area has its own showers, toilets and is conveniently located close to the parking areas. The campsite will once again be home to Yurts and Teepees provided by Tangerine Fields, award-winning and eco-friendly Myhabs and the Hobbit style Podpads. For more information check out oxegen.ie.
