Ah, the inevitable backlash about the ever-expanding X-Factor dominance around the Christmas singles charts has begun with an online campaign aimed to get Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' to the summit of the charts. A Facebook group set up to support the movement has been set up and has just shy of 90,000 'likes' on it so far.

Initial bookies odd place the 20 year old song as second favourite to take the top spot, behind re-instated X-Factor contestant Amelia Lily. Elsewhere, the cast of The Only Way Is Essex are 8/1 to be #1 with their cover of George Michael's 'Last Christmas', while Amy Winehouse is lagging behind at 12/1.

The campaigners for 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' are no doubt inspired by the successful online campaign in 2009 in which Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' beat a host of pop acts to claim Christmas #1.
