Nile Rodgers, author of some of music's most enduring guitar lines, has announced that he's cancer free. The Chic guitarist has been suffering from prostate cancer since being diagnosed with the disease in 2010.

Rodgers had previously announced that he'd beaten the disease in March 2011 but had resumed treatment recently.

Rodgers posted the below message to his official Twitter account yesterday (July 29th).

Earlier this summer, Rodgers spoke to John ahead of Chic's Forbidden Fruit performance about how his battle with cancer had actually made him closer with his fans.

"A couple of years ago I was stricken with very aggressive cancer and started doing a daily blog, so people were chiming in and I got to know them. I guarantee you that when I show up in Dublin there are going to be people there that I know on a first name basis."

Nile Rodgers and Chic recently announce details of an Irish tour set to begin in October.
