Nick Cave has been hit with further personal tragedy after he confirmed the death of his eldest son Jethro.

The musician released a statement yesterday revealing that 31-year-old Jethro Lazenby, who only found out who his father was at the age of 8, had passed away. A cause of death was not given.

"With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away," the statement said. "We would be grateful for family privacy at this time."

Jethro was born in Melbourne in 1991 and had modelled for the likes of Balenciaga and Versace he was younger. However, recent years had seen him lead a troubled personal life, after he was arrested in 2018 for assaulting his girlfriend and more recently in April 2022 for assaulting his mother, Beau Lazenby. He had been released on bail after the latter charge last Thursday, on the condition that he undergo drugs counselling.

His lawyers claimed that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and it had impaired his judgement.

It is the second time that Cave has lost a child, after his 15-year-old son Arthur died after falling from a cliff near their home in Brighton in 2015.

RIP.
