In the year of the fortieth anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's death, a new album is to be released featuring previously unreleased studio material by the legendary guitarist.

Most of the new material was recorded in London and the US between 1968 and 1970. The album will be called 'Valleys of Neptune', taking its titled from a fully-realised track written and recorded in 1970, not long before Hendrix passed away under suspicious circumstances in September of that year.

'Valleys Of Neptune' is produced by Hendrix's stepsister Janie, who said that the album offers a "deep insight into [Jimi's] mastery of the recording process and demonstrates the fact that he was as unparalleled a recording innovator as he was a guitarist." Eddie Kramer, the studio engineer who originally recorded most of the session tracks in 1969, has mixed the original recordings again, after using cutting-edge digital and analog equipment to restore the master tapes.

Experience Hendrix archivist John McDermott writes in the sleeve notes, "It is important that everyone understand that this is not the 'lost' album ... It is the documentation of an important point in his career when the original JHE was making a follow up to 'Electric Ladyland' in 1969. Once Jimi started working with Billy Cox, he started making his creative transition and left this material on the shelf."

'Valleys Of Neptune' is due for release on March 5th, and includes covers of Cream's Sunshine Of Your Love and Elmore James' Bleeding Heart, as well as the original version of Hear My Train A Comin'. The full tracklist can be seen below.
