My Morning Jacket's lead singer, Jim James, has been hospitalised after falling from the stage during a gig on Monday night.

James was playing with the band at the University of Iowa when he slipped and fell while the stage was in darkness, about thirty minutes into the band's set. The rest of the gig was cancelled and James was brought to a nearby hospital.

It's believed that he hit his head and was 'really hurt', according to the band's drummer.

My Morning Jacket are due to play Royal Hospital, Kilmainham with Seasick Steve on October 29th. It's not yet known whether this date, or any of the preceding dates on the band's tour, will be affected.

[UPDATE: The band have released a statement saying that James will require 'two to three weeks recovery'. They've cancelled all of their dates up until the Royal Hospital gig. Keep your fingers crossed...]
