This summer's Longitude line-up has taken a bit of a blow this afternoon, with the news that Modest Mouse have cancelled their scheduled date at the inaugural Longitude festival in Dublin's Marlay Park.

The Seattle band were pegged as one of the festivals trump cards when the line-up was announced in early March but have canned their European tour in order to complete work on their next record.

A brief statement from the band read: "We do appreciate our fans and promise that we will make it up to you next year. We look forward to sharing our new music with the world next year."

Modest Mouse were to appear on the Sunday of Longitude, alongside the likes of Kraftwerk, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Hot Chip. It's currently unknown whether or not MCD will announce a replacement act.

*Update* As per MCD:

Regrettably Modest Mouse have cancelled their European Tour and as a result they will not be appearing at Longitude.

Anyone who purchased a Sunday Day Ticket and wishes to obtain a refund due to the non appearance of Modest Mouse, can do so from point of purchase up to the 30th of June .

Longitude will be announcing two new Sunday additions next week.

MCD would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
