If Miley Cyrus's new single is anything to go by, her forthcoming album could mark a major reinvention for the pop star.
After teasing fans for the past few weeks about new material, the video for 'Midnight Sky' arrived this morning and it's a serious moody pop banger.
The video was also directed by Cyrus herself and is an undeniably stylish affair. It's the latest track to be taken from 'She Is Miley Cyrus', due for release later this year.
The song was co-written by Ryan Tedder and the lyrics see her wrestle back power after a tumultuous few years when it comes to relationships; she split from husband Liam Hemsworth and subsequently had high-profile flings with Kaitlynn Carter and Cody Simpson. On 'Midnight Sky', she sings: "See my lips on her mouth, everybody's talkin' now, baby / I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone, oh no / Don't need to be loved by you."
The press release claims to be influenced by icons like Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett and Debbie Harry, but decide for yourself below:
