London born soul star Michael Kiwanuka has been announced at the winner of the BBC Sound of 2012 poll. The announcement was made this morning by BBC Radio jock Zane Lowe. Kiwanuka beat the likes of Frank Ocean, Azealia Banks, Skillrex and Niki and the Dove to the honour.

Kiwanuka, who has been compared favourably to soul legends Bill Withers and Otis Redding, is tipped to have a breakout year in 2012. His debut album Home Again will be released in March through Polydor, following on from two EPs released last year, Tell Me a Tale and I'm Getting Ready.

You can see for yourself if the hype is justified when Michael Kiwanuka plays Dublin's The Sugar Club on Saturday 11th February. Tickets are priced at €14.50.

Michael will also be playing Cork's Cyprus Avenue the following evening, 12th February, and you can purchase tickets through entertainment.ie/tickets right here!
