Madonna fans around the world were left reeling last month after it was revealed that the pop icon had been hospitalised and was in ICU.

Her manager Guy Oseary shared an update that she had developed a "serious bacterial infection" but was expected to recover. Later reports suggested that she had been 'vomiting uncontrollably' since being discharged from hospital.

However, with the first date of her global 'Celebration' tour planned for this month, it looked unlikely that the 64-year-old would be in any fit state to tour - and now she has broken her silence to thank fans for their support and update them on the tour.

The North American leg, which was due to kick off in Vancouver on July 15th, will now be rescheduled and the tour will start in Europe in October.

The statement read: "Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.

"My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who have worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone."

She went on to say that her current focus is on her health and that she will "be back as soon as I can!"
