Madonna has landed herself in some hot water after speaking out in support of Russian feminist band Pussy Riot. The punk collective have been jailed since a protest performance against Russian President Vladimir Putin in August of last year.

Madonna first showed her support for Pussy Riot when the incident was making international headlines last year, but now her persistent support seems to have drawn the ire of the Kremlin as the Russian foreign ministry has rules that Madonna's visa to enter the country didn't allow her to earn money during her visit, according to newspaper Izvestia.

The Queen of Pop now faces a fine in the region of €12,000 and the possibility of not being allowed back into the country.

St Petersburg legislator Vitaly Milonov said that Madonna was given a three month single-entry visa and that her stay should have been limited to "cultural ties".

This will all serve as yet more terrible publicity toward Russia, who have already been the recipients of international condemnation for their over-aggressive handling of the Pussy Riot protests.
