Ian Watkins, lead singer for Welsh rock outfit Lostprophets, has been charged with sexual offences against children. The 35-year-old is scheduled to appear in front of Cardiff magistrates today.

The singer has been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13, as well as possession and distribution of indecent images of children. Two women, aged 20 and 24, have also been charged with similar offences. All three have been questioned at Cardiff Bay police station, according to South Wales police.

A spokesperson for the police commented on the situation, saying: "A Pontypridd man has been charged with sexual offences against children and is due to appear at Cardiff magistrates court today. In order to assist their investigation, South Wales police has named the man as Ian Watkins, a member of the rock group Lostprophets.

Lostprophets formed in Pontypridd in 1997 and their most recent album Weapons was released in April of this year.
