Welsh band Lostprophets have issued a statement to the media, following lead singer Ian Watkins' arrest for sexual offences against children.

A message to fans on the band's website reads: "Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers. Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu".

Watkins was due in before Cardiff magistrates yesterday to answer six charges of sexual offenses against two children. According to reports, the singer appeared in court wearing a black hooded top and appeared "visibly tired". Watkins' counsel Tom Crowther has stated that his client would be denying the charges.

The singer is accused of conspiracy to rape a female under 13 - understood to be a one-year-old girl - and has also been charged with two incidents related to sexual touching and four offenses related to making, possessing and distributing child pornography.

The Mirror has also reported that Watkins possessed various images of "extreme" pornography involving animals.

Two females aged 20 and 24 have also appeared in court in related charges.
