Songs from the lost Beach Boys album 'Smile' are set to be released for the first time this year.

The songs were recorded during 1966 and 1967 for the album that was to follow 'Pet Sounds'. However, it was never completed and 'Pet Sounds' was instead followed by 1967's 'Smiley Smile'.

Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson revisted the songs from 'Smile' in 2003 and released a re-recorded version of the album in 2004. Until now though, the original Beach Boys recordings have never been heard by the public.

The new collection is being co-produced by Beach Boys associates Mark Linett and Alan Boyd and will be released under the name 'The Smile Sessions' later this year.

Wilson has given his full approval to the project:
"I'm thrilled that the Beach Boys' original studio sessions for Smile will be released for the first time, after all these years."

"I'm looking forward to this collection of the original recordings and having fans hear the beautiful angelic voices of the boys in a proper studio release."
