The new Doctor Who was announced as young actor Matt Smith at the weekend, but rumours are currently circulating that his next female sidekick will be singer Lily Allen.

Allen could be set to follow in the footsteps of former popstrel Billie Piper, who joined the sci-fi series in 2005. She has been linked to the role after the programme's executive producer Piers Wenger said: "We would never cast anyone on the basis of their celebrity, but if Lily wanted to audition we would be delighted. It would be a lot of fun."

Allen releases her second album 'It's Not Me, It's You' in the coming weeks - but considering she's still failed to sell out her Academy date (800 max. capacity), acting may be an option to consider...
