They may be related to rock 'n' roll stars, but Gene Gallagher and Sonny Starkey have found themselves in a spot of bother with the police.

The youngest son of Oasis's Liam Gallagher and the grandson of Beatle Ringo Starr have both been charged with assault for their role in a fight at a London shop last year.

News of their misdemeanour first broke last May, but details were scant. Now, the pair - both 19 - have officially been charged, alongside their friend, model Noah Ponte.

It's alleged that the three became involved in a brawl with a security guard at a Tesco in Hampstead, North London in May 2019. Ponte allegedly tried to steal a can of beer after the curfew for buying alcohol, and was approached by an (South Asian) security guard. He is accused of telling him "You bloody Indians. Go back to where you came from. You’re not wanted here.” A physical fight between the trio and Tesco staff then broke out, and police were called.

The Sun reports that all three have been charged with affray, with Ponte and Gallagher also charged with racially aggravated assault.

Gallagher is the son of Liam and ex-wife Nicole Appleton, while Starkey is the son of Jason Starkey, Ringo's second-eldest son.

They both entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
