Former Fugee Lauryn Hill has inked a record deal with a brand new subdivision of Sony Worldwide Entertainment to release new music, the R&B singer confirmed on her Tumblr.

It has been speculated that Hill entered into this new deal to help pay off fines which she was hit with last year after being convicted of three years of tax evasion.

Speaking on the matter, Hill said: "It took years for me to get out of the 'parasitic' dynamic of my youth, and into a deal that better reflects my true contribution as an artist, and (purportedly) gives me the control necessary to create a paradigm suitable for my needs. I have been working towards this for a long time, not just because of my current legal situation, but because I am an artist, I love to create, and I need the proper platform to do so."

As of a month ago, Hill has paid $50,000 of a total $554,000 she owes the US government in retribution. She faced three years in jail as a result of her tax misdemeanours but it appears very unlikely that she'll be banged up as a result of her crime.
