Daniel Lanois, who is producing U2's new album, has said that the band have 'reinvented' rock 'n' roll.

Speaking to a US newspaper, Lanois said the album - rumoured to be titled 'No Line On the Horizon' - sees Bono in his best voice, and the songs 'wildly innovative', with Bono's lyrics '[getting] better with every record.'

Lanois produced several of U2's albums in the past, included 'The Joshua Tree'. "I like those people for their appetite for innovation," he said. "They want things to be new and fresh, and they never get stuck on how the band should sound. (Brian) Eno and I just have a lot of fun with them, especially for the first 20 or 30 per cent of the record. During those first sessions, it's no-holds-barred, we take on anything that comes our way."

The album is due early next year.
