When you're in a group with a singer who will go on to be one of the biggest solo artists of her generation, it's only natural that an inferiority complex might take root.

However, while Michelle Williams has had to deal with the omnipresent 'poor Michelle' memes over the years, the other Destiny's Child member - and childhood friend of Beyonce - has revealed that she had her own struggles while she was in the group, too.

Rowland is currently a judge on The Voice Australia and she spoke about being compared to her famous friend on the show.

Responding to contestant Chris Sebastian's self-confessed insecurity about living in the shadow of his musician brother Guy, she said: ''I know this feeling. Can you imagine what it's like being in a group with Beyoncé?''

"I would just torture myself in my head - like, 'I can't wear this dress because they're going to say it's like B'. Or 'I can't have a song like that because it sounds too much like B'. They're gonna compare, anyways."

She continued: ''I would be lying if I said no, it's never bothered me. That's bull.

''There was a whole decade, if I am being completely honest, a decade, where it was like the elephant in the room. It was the thing that would constantly be on my shoulder.''

Rowland and Williams last made an appearance with Beyonce during her Coachella headline set in 2017.
