UK band Keane have confirmed that they won't be active for the foreseeable future once their 'Best Of' album hits record store shelves next month.

Reports in the Sunday tabloids suggested that the band were going to permanently call it quits but frontman Tom Chaplin was quick to clarify that while the band won't be around for a while, this won't be the last you hear from Keane.

An official statement from the band read: "Keane are taking a break after the 'Best Of' to pursue their own projects". Chaplin is believed to be working on solo material, while the band's chief songwriter Tim Rice-Oxley will focus his efforts on writing music for emerging artists.

Keane have released four studio album since their formation in 1997 and have picked up an Ivor Novello award and two BRITs during that time.

The band's 'Best Of' will be released on November 11th and will feature two brand new songs. The band will play what will likely be their final show in many a moon in the Tunbridge Wells on Friday October 25th.
