Katy Perry has revealed details of the follow up to last year's hit album 'One Of The Boys'. Influenced by Ace of Base and Cyndi Lauper, 'Teenage Dream' is due for release in Ireland on August 27th.

The first single to be taken from the album will be 'California Gurls' featuring none other than Snoop Dogg, which comes out on June 18th. According to Katy, she wrote the track as a response to Jay-Z and Alicia Key's 'Empire State of Mind' after hearing the hit song at a party.

"Everybody was holding their drinks in the air and dancing, and I thought, 'We're not in New York, we're in Los Angeles! What about California? What about all the homies, the gin and juice, the swaying palm trees, the sun-kissed skin 24-7. I decided that we needed to make a response. I want people to want to book a ticket to California the first time they hear it!"

'California Gurls' is currently streaming on Katy's official website.

Meanwhile, Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House have expressed their irritation at the similarity between the album's title and that of their own 'Teen Dream' which came out at the start of the year. Ha!
