Stone Roses guitarist John Squire has confirmed that the band have written a rake of new material and are planning to record them soon.

Speaking to BBC 6Music at the premiere of Shane Meadows' Made of Stone documentary about the band, Squires of the new material: "we're working on it. It'll be ready in about five years. We've got a few new songs. I can't really tell you much about it it. We won't be playing the songs until we've recorded them. We're working on it this year."

Five years?! Unless that statement was made with considerable tongue-in-cheek it looks like we'll be waiting some time for new sounds from Ian Brown, Mani and co. The Stone Roses were never particularly prolific, with just two albums released in the seven years they were together prior to their 2011 reunion.
