Former Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins, who is serving a 29 year sentence for numerous child sex charges, has applied for permission to appeal the length of his sentence.

According to a report by the BBC, Watkins' legal counsel lodged the appeal in the past two days and will likely be looking for a significant reduction in jail time.

Watkins admitted charges of conspiring to rape a child as well as three counts of sexual assault involving children and numerous other charges which are almost too grim to type out. He was sentenced along with two women, known throughout the trial as A and B, who were sentenced to 14 and 17 years.

It remains unclear how likely Watkins' appeal might be, especially given the high profile nature of the case and Watkins' portrayal throughout as a "highly manipulative and devious sex offender", as described by the NSPCC.

The remaining members of Lostprophets dissolved the band after Watkins' crimes became apparent and maintained that Watkins hid them from his bandmates.
